Applications are now open for the first STEP4NAMs ENABLE on-site training at Atlantic Technological University (ATU) in Galway, Ireland. Taking place on 17 June 2026, this one-day session offers MedTech SMEs a unique opportunity to move from knowledge to practice working directly with advanced benchtop simulation systems, vascular models, and bioprinting technologies in a fully equipped clinical and research environment.
What to expect on the day
The training is structured as a full-day programme combining introductory context, hands-on lab work, and applied strategy sessions. Participants will:
- gain an overview of STEP4NAMs and ATU's Medical & Engineering Technologies (MET) Centre
- explore NAMs in the context of MedTech preclinical evaluation
- set up and operate vascular in vitro test systems
- navigate and deploy devices under real-time fluoroscopy imaging, including clot retrieval scenarios
- work with bioplotter-based fabrication to produce anatomically relevant vascular models
- develop 2D/planar navigation models and discuss how bench-top testing fits into regulatory development pipelines
The
training is delivered by Dr Eugene McCarthy, Dr Joaquín Penide, Dr Janice
O'Sullivan, and Dr Kohyar Yazdanpanah Ardakani — all specialists in biomedical
engineering and vascular device testing at ATU.
Who should apply?
This
training is designed for SMEs and start-ups working in MedTech, particularly
those developing or testing endovascular or minimally invasive medical devices.
Places
are strictly limited to 10 participants to ensure a hands-on, small-group
experience.
Prerequisite for application and participation
- Completion of the STEP4NAMs Core Module by the time of application
- Completion of Sub-Module 4: Benchtop Simulation Systems before the training takes place
Both modules are available free of charge on the STEP4NAMs Moodle platform.
